The State of Texas has adopted the 2015 International Residential Code (IRC), Chapter 11.

The City of Corpus Christi is enforcing the code, stating that all new homes built today have their ducts tested by an independent 3rd party tester. We are learning that homes with tight, non-leaking ducts require much lower capacity air conditioning to stay comfortable. This saves the consumer money because they can purchase a smaller A/C and save thousands of dollars in wasted energy over the lifespan of the home. It is also good for the environment to not waste electricity and fuel required to heat and cool our homes and business. We recommend a duct pressure test and visual inspection for all homes that have ducts in an unconditioned attic at least once every 5 years. Ducts located in these extreme conditions can test OK for now, but 5 years from now may develop serious leakage.
